Yes, dogs can eat ragi, known as finger millet in English and there are more than a couple of ways in which you can feed ragi to your pet member.

Ingredients Needed

  • Ragi flour - 1/4 cup
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Oil - Just a drop or two
  • Salt - a pinch
How to Cook Ragi Chapati for Dogs
  • Place a pan on stove and add 1/4 cup water to it. 
  • Add oil and a pinch of salt and bring water to boil.
  • Add 1/4 cup of ragi flour when water starts to boil.
  • Simmer the stove and mix well till all water gets absorbed.
  • Turn off the stove and keep the dough closed.
  • After a resting time of 15-30 minutes, make small balls out of the dough.
  • Roll the balls and make chapatis.
While serving, just serve a bite or two initially.

Side Effects of Ragi for Dogs

Undercooked ragi can cause indigestion in dogs. Hence, care has to be taken to ensure proper cooking. Over feeding of ragi to dogs can also cause digestive issues. Moderation is key.

Some dogs may exhibit allergic symptoms. Some dogs may be sensitive to ragi. Hence, it is always best to start with low quantity and check for any allergic reactions. If your pet shows no symptoms of allergy and digests ragi well, you can gradually increase the quantity till you reach the recommended serving portion.
