Can Dogs Eat Millets? Here is a Simple Millet Adai / Dosa Recipe for Dogs and Their Hoomans Too

When the question "Can dogs eat millets?" arose in my mind, I immediately started looking for recommendations in favor of feeding millets to dogs. Various studies conducted on serving millets to dogs gave a clear picture, which was highly encouraging.

According to a study, millets may benefit obese and diabetic dogs.  

Benefits of Millets for Dogs

Millets make an excellent addition to your dog's diet. Here are some of the important benefits of feeding millets to dogs:

Here is a tasty millet adai / dosa recipe for dogs.

Ingredients
  • Millets - 1 cup (You need to use at least two to three types of millets as you may want to ensure your pet gets her share of amino acids)
  • Dal - 1 cup (You can add more than one type of dal. If your pet has a food allergy, only toor dal is recommended)
Directions
  • Rinse millets and dal and soak them separately. Millets need at least two to three hours of soaking. Dal can be soaked for about two hours.
  • Once soaked sufficiently, remove the excess water and grind millets to a fine paste. You can add one or two tablespoons of water while grinding.
  • Grind dal to a smooth paste.
  • Add 1 tsp of turmeric powder and a pinch of salt to millet and dal mixture and blend well.
  • Make dosas using coconut oil.

Note: While making millet dosa or adai for humans, you can add required salt, green and red chillies and other spices. Kindly ensure you do not mix your millet flour with that of your pet's.
