My First, Sorry, Second Car Ride

The family was talking about going out somewhere for a short ride. They were telling that since I was around, they cannot be away for long. I felt worried. Are they going to leave me at home and go out somewhere? Even if it is a short ride how can I manage to be alone without them?

Remember that I am just three months old, will you?

Big B and dad got ready first and they were taking some of my things with them. Why should they carry my things with them?

Then came the pleasant surprise. I was taken downstairs by mom who locked the door of our home.

The surprise doubled when mom sat me in the car. Oh, they had laid the white cloth I use at home on the car seat so I can lie down. The family had also placed another dress material that I am used to playing with on the car seat. And they had my toys too. Okayee, these guys had planned well. But where are we going?

The first car ride I had was when mom and dad took me to 'My New Home'. Hope you remember the photo I had shared in that post.

Oh my goodness, how sweet I was... and still am
During this ride Big B was with me as well. I was sitting between Big B and mom in the rear seat and father was driving the car.

All set dad, start driving...
The first time I did not get down from mom's lap. But now, I was exploring everything in the car.
Hmmm...leather!!! How about leather covers for our cushions at home?
Is anyone going to sit on the third row? I think when I get bigger I can have that whole back row for me and my toys.
But you should not lean backwards Big B

I started looking out through the window. The outside world was super interesting and exciting. The sound of vehicles passing by and voices of people unknown to me were all very interesting. I definitely felt peaceful and happy to be going out with my family to have a feel of the outside world.
A Perfect family outing...
But again, where are we going?

Soon, I came to know we were visiting mom's sisters. The family also mentioned about another Big B and I felt super happy.

Well, I had a good time with mom's sisters and great time with the other Big B. Are all Big B's like this?

It was nearly an hour since we left home and dad said it was high time we returned. So we were on our way home. I again had a good time looking out through the window. Hope the family takes me out for a car ride everyday.

Never mind the diesel price dad..just look how excited I am
I started feeling sleepy in a while. Big B put my toys away as I moved towards his lap.
Does car journey make us sleepy also?
We returned home in a while. The family praised me for being so co-operative. They felt happy that there was no sign of anxiety and that I felt super comfortable during the journey and while meeting other family members.

I felt good too.
Car seats are great but Big B's lap is ultimate
What did mom learn today?

Dogs love car rides, at least most of them.

Why do dogs love car rides?

The natural curiosity in dogs makes them look forward to car rides. Riding in car gives them a feel of the outside world. Everything about the outside world including smell, sounds and sights can trigger the adventurous spirit in dogs.

According to some dog behaviorists the forward movement of the car makes the pet feel like she is a part of hunting expedition. No wonder, being a hunter breed, Chezhi, the chippiparai loved car ride.

Dogs love going out with their family. It gives them a sense of happiness to be surrounded by loving family members while being able to get her excitement growing as she smells, hears and sees the world outside.

While most of the dogs generally love car rides, some can get anxious. Hence, it is always best to adhere to certain basic guidelines to ensure you and your pet have a safe and pleasant car ride.

1) Let the first ride be a short one so the pet gets used to being in a moving car. Also ensure the first ride is a pleasant one and not for any medical reasons as it may make your puppy fear car rides.

2) Make the journey as comfortable as possible for your pet. You can make your puppy comfortable by bringing along certain things she uses at home including her toys. You can also carry some treats for your puppy. Remember to bring some water for your little friend.

3) It is highly recommended not to make your puppy sit next to you as you drive. The rear seat is always best and safe for the four-legged bundle of joy.

4) If safety is ensured and the weather is friendly, keep the windows half-open so your puppy can enjoy scents of the outside world.

The Most Important Mistake to Avoid While Taking Your Pet for a Car Ride

Your pet should never be left in a parked car during hot weather or even if the weather is mild. A parked car's interior gets much hotter than outside within few minutes even if you leave the window open. Leaving your dog in parked car can cause heat exhaustion in them. Check the post on Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke in Dogs.
