I am Growing and So Does My Responsibility - Part 2
Okay, I think I have told enough about my growth phase in I am Growing and So Does My Responsibility - Part 1. Now to my growing responsibility.
The way I respond to sounds has evolved to the point of alertness. Earlier, sounds sort of used to alarm me. In the past, a sound from the kitchen when mom was there would make me rush back to the living area. But now, where ever I am, if I hear a sound from the kitchen, I instantly rush there to check if things are alright.
Doorbells are not concerns anymore. When I was small, sound of the doorbell at times would startle me. But now, it is a different story. I can sense people even before they ring the bell. Now, the moment I hear some sound, I go into high alert mode.
Did you hear that sound mom?
I get ready to rush towards the door but I always wait for one of the family members to join me. Likewise, I never let them go alone towards the door. Not only safety, if I believe any of the family members is in trouble I become concerned. I rush to support them. One day, mom was helping with Big B's hair. Since Big B cried out that it was aching for him, I thought he was in trouble and rushed to take away the comb from mom. But then, mom told me she was only helping Big B by grooming his hair. Then I soothed Big B by licking him.
Oh Big B, take it easy
Then I tried to help mom comb the hair by running my nose through Big B's hair. You need some support mom
From whichever side I tried it was tough.
Thus, I have been getting involved in so many tasks at home. Still, they don't let me into the kitchen. That makes me sad.
But that never makes me less enthusiastic about my responsibilities. As you know, we are most devoted to our families and our love is unconditional. Hope you recall my mentioning about it in one of my earlier posts 'Chezhi and Family Bond - The Voice of Every Chezhi the World Over'. So, I just went about doing my job, that is, taking care of my family.
It was midnight. I suddenly felt that something was not good as I could sense some smell coming out of the family's bedroom. I got near the door and started whining from outside. There was no response. I started whining a bit louder. There seemed to be some sort of action in the bedroom. The light was turned on, some noises from inside.
Suddenly the door opened and dad came out first followed by mom. I was so near the door that father had to lift me to move outside. I sat on his lap, which I had not done in a while and did not let him move. The parents were concerned. Then suddenly father asked me if I called out because of the smell coming out of the bedroom. Instantly I looked up at his face to let him know he was right. It seems it was the air conditioner's coil that got burnt.
Parents kept assuring me that nothing was wrong and everything was fine. I finally let them go. They were so moved that I was so concerned for their safety and wondered how responsible I was. Well family, how can I be otherwise?
For the first time, mom could not capture the moment on cam. But, she did so the next morning when I had a touching moment with father.
Lessons learnt:
Dogs barking when the doorbell rings is not always out of fear. It could be excitement or the keenness to protect the family and in some cases it could be due to stress to protect their territory. When doorbell rings, react calmly so your furry friend follows cues.
Dogs can smell through walls. Dogs sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times as acute as humans. Hope you remember the information was shared in an earlier post My First Injection. They can smell people and objects as far as 20 km away when wind conditions are perfect say experts.
Dogs sense of hearing is amazing. It is at least about four times greater than that of humans. Assuming we can hear something at 15 feet, dogs can hear at four times greater, that is at about 60 feet. They can also hear what humans can't.
